Campaigners are to hold a protest outside the US Embassy in London against the extradition of computer hacker Gary McKinnon to America.

His supporters argue that when a crime occurs in the UK a British court should be able to refuse extradition.

The US wants to try Mr McKinnon, 43, for what it calls the biggest military computer hack ever in 2001/02. He maintains he was seeking UFO evidence.

The Asperger's Syndrome sufferer lost a court bid to avoid extradition.

Liberty say that British courts should be allowed to veto extradition "if it's in the interests of justice to do so".

The group added: "Liberty also holds that the requesting country should have to make out the case for extradition in a British court before the request is granted."

Glasgow-born Mr McKinnon admits hacking by accessing 97 government computers belonging to organisations such as the US Navy and Nasa, but denies it was malicious.

He also denies the allegation he caused damage costing $800,000 (£487,000).

He has always insisted he was looking for classified documents on UFOs, which he believed the US authorities had suppressed.

Gary McKinnon loses U.S. extradition appeal

LONDON (Reuters) - A Briton wanted in the United States for breaking into NASA and Pentagon networks in "the biggest military hack of all time" lost an appeal against his extradition Friday, making a U.S. trial more likely.

Gary McKinnon, 43, has fought a three-year battle to avoid extradition, including going to the European Court of Human Rights, but he appeared to have run out of options as Britain's High Court ruled against his latest appeal Friday.

The court rejected arguments by McKinnon's lawyers that extraditing McKinnon, who was recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, would have disastrous consequences for his health, including possible psychosis and suicide.

Judges also dismissed his calls for a judicial review of the case. Lawyers had challenged a refusal by Britain's chief prosecutor to allow McKinnon to be tried in Britain, which would have avoided any need for extradition.

"For the reasons set out in the judgment, the claims against the secretary of state and the Department for Public Prosecutions are dismissed," Lord Justice Stanley Burnton said in the ruling, according to the Press Association.

McKinnon, whose lawyers describe him as a "UFO eccentric" who used the Internet to search for alien life, is accused of causing the U.S. Army's entire network of more than 2,000 computers in Washington to be shut down for 24 hours in what U.S. authorities called "the biggest military hack of all time."

He was arrested in 2002 after U.S. prosecutors charged him with illegally accessing computers, including systems at the Pentagon and NASA, and causing $700,000 worth of damage.

McKinnon told Reuters in 2006 that he was just a computer nerd who wanted to find out whether aliens really existed and became obsessed with trawling through large military data networks for any proof that they might be out there.

He had used his own computer with a 56K dial-up modem at his London home with no password protection and somehow managed to evade every security measure the U.S. military had adopted.

If he is convicted by a U.S. court, McKinnon could face up to 70 years in prison.

Members of the British media and family and friends have waged a lengthy campaign to try to prevent McKinnon's extradition. His mother was angry at the latest setback.

"It's a disgrace, and they should be highly embarrassed," Janis Sharp told reporters outside the court. "This is from the Bush era, it is hold-over from the Bush era."

President Barack Obama "would not want this to happen," she said.

Terry Waite asks U.S to drop case against UFO Seeker/Computer Hacker.

First a little history on Terry Waite, 1980 Terry Waite first became famous when he successfully negotiated the release of several hostages in Iran. In 1984 he negotiated with Colonel Gaddafi for the release of British hostages held in Libya and again was successful. Then from 1985 Waite became involved in hostage negotiations in Lebanon, and he assisted in successful negotiations that secured the release of two hostages. However, his use of an American helicopter to travel secretly between Cyprus and Lebanon and his appearance with Oliver North meant that he was compromised when the Irangate scandal broke. Against advice, Waite felt a need to demonstrate his continuing trust and integrity and his commitment to the remaining hostages. He arrived in Beirut on 12 January 1987 with the intention of negotiating with the Islamic Jihad Organization, who were holding the men. On 20 Jan 1987 he agreed to meet with the captors of the hostages as he was promised safe conduct to visit the hostages, who he was told were ill. The group broke trust and took Waite hostage on 20 Jan 1987, where he remained in captivity for a total of 1,763 days, the first four years of which were spent in total solitary confinement, and it was not until 18 November 1991 that he was Released.

Now Terry Waite, has asked the US to drop criminal charges against Gary McKinnon. McKinnon, is facing extradition to the US for hacking NASA and Pentagon computers while seeking evidence for UFOs and extraterrestrial visitors to Earth.

The story has spread throughout British media, like BBC News, where he has become somewhat of a hero. McKinnon's supporters include Rock Legend Sting, and other government leaders.

Among his findings while hacking into the computers were references of UFOs and "non-terrestrial officers". NASA has denied doctoring photos that contained images of UFOs, and being part of any cover-up, But whistle-blowers have offered testimony that supports claims that NASA has defrauded American taxpayers for billions of dollars.

Former employees or contractors of NASA have claimed that NASA destroyed vital images of UFOs that provided evidence of ET visitors to Earth and the Moon.
