Four witnesses report two UFOs over Pennsylvania morning sky

March 19, 4:31 AM
UFO Examiner Roger Marsh

Four Pennsylvania witnesses report two UFO over morning skies on March 17, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
The first bright light they noticed caught their attention because it was "moving forward and reversing directions to fly back where it was just at and also, hovering. It was moving in smooth fluid motions, not in a jerky manner."

They also report a flash from this object that was "very bright and constant."

They then noticed a second bright light very close to the first object that "seemed to be moving in a circular or looping motion."

MUFON reports 12 UFO sightings from Pennsylvania so far in March 2010. There were 9 reports in February.

The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Pennsylvania MUFON State Director John Ventre investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.

PA, March 17, 2010 - Myself and 3 other men saw 2 unexplained "lights" in the sky that flew around and were silent. MUFON Case # 22368.
Myself and 3 other men were cleaning up a lawn for spring, there had been a lot of geese flying overhead in the morning and I was looking up often to locate flocks.

As I was scanning the sky I noticed a very bright light that was moving forward and reversing directions to fly back where it was just at and also, hovering. It was moving in smooth fluid motions, not in a jerky manner.

The flash from this object was very bright and constant. We were watching this object for a couple of minutes as it was moving about the sky.

All of a sudden, we noticed another bright light in the sky fairly close to the first one sighted. The second object seemed to be moving in a circular or looping motion.

VIDEO UPDATE:

NORTH PORT -- It's Mutual UFO Network's case No. 17015.

North Porter Michael Rowley's bizarre story is fit for a lost episode of television's "X-Files."

After several alien sightings, Rowley has had his claims investigated by MUFON of Florida.

MUFON is composed of people "seriously interested in studying and researching the phenomenon of Unidentified Flying Objects," according to the MUFON Web site. Information collected is used to "educate the public" about UFO sightings and "plausible contact with intelligent life outside" of the Earthly atmosphere.

A resident since April, Rowley, 58, and his 15-year-old son, Shane, say they have encountered two, 9-foot-tall, pale aliens in their yard on at least three occasions.

The first time Michael saw the creature, he was outside at night fixing a water pump.

As he approached the water pump, Michael claims he heard a "swoosh" sound and saw branches being pushed into the woods near his home on the eastern end of town.

"What the heck was that?" Michael said he asked Shane. "There was something tall and thin that rushed out of the woods. But there where no breaking sounds (of branches being walked on). It was like the thing didn't even step on the ground. Then it disappeared."

However, Shane says he already knew what it was because he witnessed the alien a day earlier.

Shane said on April 10, he was at home in bed. The room didn't have curtains.

Shane said he looked out the window and saw a figure outside.

"It was pale, gray and very tall, in the 9-foot range," he said. "The face was larger than average, round and hairless. The eyes were large and more oval-shaped, and dark to the point where you could not see the pupils."

He said he could not see the alleged creature's hands as if they "nearly touched the ground."

Shane was shocked to see another one behind the first one in a tree.

"It was crouching sideways and was halfway up a palm tree," he said. "It was a medium-sized creature, green in coloration (and) textured skin, much like sandpaper or scales. Its face was the shape of a heart or spade, with elf-like, pointed ears."

He said it was on the tree "bobbing its head back and forth" as though it were looking at the other creature and then at him, Shane explained.

After about five minutes of staring at the creatures around 1 a.m., he said he lost time.

"It was 8:30 (a.m.)," he said. "I don't know what happened in-between."

As crazy as it sounds -- and Michael will admit it sounds crazy -- he worries his son was abducted for a short time.

The father and son said they believe they have both previously seen "plate-shaped" UFOs when they lived in Cosmopolis, Wash.

"(They were) flying on their sides, with an unearthly blue color ... flying downward for momentum, then up and out," Michael said. "I think they might have followed us to North Port."

After two more alleged experiences seeing the creatures, Michael wrote to the Mutual UFO Network of Florida. He explained that he captured on tape a "blinking red (eyeball-like) light in the woods, that made a 'Chewbacca'-like sound."

Shane was angry at it for following him.

"I went into woods with a scythe to defend my home," Shane said. "My father would not let me."

Michael told his son, "if you go into those woods, who is going to have to go in there and get you?"

After Michael's second encounter with the creature, where he said he startled it in his yard, he says he finally has proof it exists.

"It left a footprint in the sand and I made a plaster cast of it," he said. "I took pictures and invited the MUFON UFO Network to come investigate."

Michael says the footprint is not from a human.

"It's hoofed and clawed and is about 18 inches long. It came from a dragon-like creature."

Michael described the creature as cryptid -- a term used in cryptozoology to describe a creature that lacks scientific support, such as a Big Foot or Yeti, as well as extinct species some claim to still be living today.

MUFON field investigator Morgan A. Beall visited the Rowleys.

On May 21, he started case No. 17015, which includes a half-hour documentary he made of the Rowleys' encounters, photographs of the footprint, the negatives and the plaster cast.

According to his findings, Beall wrote "based on case studies, the nature of the witness testimony and other surrounding occurrences points toward the possibility of the abduction phenomenon. More evidence is needed to determine this opinion."

Beall recommended a lie detector test, having the footprint cast examined by independent experts, having the video evidence examined by a professional and having a Florida MUFON abduction specialist examine the case.

Michael said he would like to have Mary Margaret Zimmer, assistant state director of MUFON, examine Shane.

"I think she will be able to help him find where he was taken when he lost time when he was possibly abducted," Michael said.

According to Zimmer, neither of the Rowleys have contacted her yet.

"Shane is a minor, so I would need his father's permission to examine him," she said.

The Rowleys say they are convinced they are

being followed by the creatures.

"I want to sell my home," said Michael, who is on disability benefits. "We are considering moving to England. Maybe they will not find us there."

In Hamilton, ‘Dr. UFO’ is on the case

The Doctor will see you now.

“Dr. UFO,” that is, otherwise known as Pat Marcattilio of Hamilton, the affable founder of the New Jersey-Pennsylvania UFO Study Group, which has been meeting monthly at the Hamilton Library for nearly 25 years. In the UFO community (yes, “community” is the word), Mr. Marcattilio is one of New Jersey’s most prominent figures. Over the years, through his travels to UFO conferences around the country, also through the conferences he organizes here, he has come to know many of the bold-face names in American “ufology.”

A father of four, a granddad, a retired postal worker who grew up in Trenton, Mr. Marcattilio first saw a UFO in 1963 and has been on the case ever since. “I was out in the back yard while my wife was cooking dinner.” he says. “That was the time when satellites were big and people used to watch for them. I saw this big bluish- white light coming across the sky and I said, ‘Honey, come look at this. It’s beautiful.’ Then the light took a right-hand turn and zoomed away. ‘Wow, that was no satellite,’ we both said.”

Mr. Marcattilio picked up his “Dr. UFO” moniker by being the go-to guy for lots of ordinary people with out-of-the-ordinary questions, and also for his personal library of more than 1,200 UFO-related books and videos. He has created something like a traveling museum, too — some 75 large panels mounted with UFO photos, scientific reports, police reports, etc.

Who attends the meetings of the UFO study group? What happens there?

First, if you were expecting a freak show, you would be disappointed. Like Mr. Marcattilio, the people who turn up for meetings are regular folks, solid-citizen types indistinguishable from the people you might run into at the supermarket or the mall. Some of them are merely curious. Others have had life- changing experiences and are seeking answers in a supportive environment, where they will not be ridiculed or rejected. Others are UFO “professionals,” such as MUFON investigators from New York and Pennsylvania and independent researchers.

A recent Harris poll found that of those Americans surveyed, 33 percent said they believe that intelligent beings from other planets have visited the United States. Skeptics view such findings as evidence of “unexamined belief in pseudoscience, fantastic claims, and irrational superstitions.”

The Hamilton group’s proceedings are informal. Mr. Marcattilio runs the meeting with a light touch and lots of humor.

“We go with the flow. There’s no power trip,” he says. “I try to make the meetings interesting. I have a UFO datebook and I might talk about what happened in ufology on people’s birthdays. We show UFO videos. We talk about what’s going on in the news, about programs we’ve seen on TV. And I ask them to share their stories.”

Recent discussions have centered on the ongoing UFO flap in Bucks County, where more than 70 sightings have been reported since last summer. Newspapers and TV news, usually reluctant to cover such news, have had no choice but to do so. In January, a conference called by MUFON’s Pennsylvania chapter at Bucks County Community College attracted hundreds of attendees. On the entertainment front, the Discovery Channel has devoted an episode of its “UFOs over Earth” series to “The Bucks County Flap” and the History Channel’s popular “UFO Hunters” is taking a look, too.

“Turnout goes up and down, people come and go,” Mr. Marcattilio says, “but there’s a core group.”

The conviction that UFOs are physically real and that extraterrestrials pilot them is widely shared, but there’s no party line. One longstanding member has done professional research in parapsychology and serves as the group’s in- house debunker. Some reports provoke sharp questions from group members. But everybody has their say — and people are almost always courteous, he says.

Also, if you were expecting dramatic testimonies, you would probably be disappointed about that, too. Group members turn out to be reticent about their personal experiences, in the main, but Mr. Marcattilio has a gift for bringing people out of their shells.

A 30-something Little League coach from Yardville recounts what he saw on Aug. 6, 2006, while walking in his neighborhood.

“I’m a normal guy, a boring guy, but sometimes I feel like the guy on ‘Close Encounters,’” he says. “This thing can just consume you, it can take over your life. I’m a quality control manager, I’m a stickler for detail. You wouldn’t believe the hours I’ve spent doing research on this, searching for answers.”

“Dr. UFO” will be presenting this year’s Great UFO/ET Congress on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, at the Bordentown Ramada, Route 206 North at New Jersey Turnpike Exit No. 7 North. Speakers will include Stanton T. Friedman (“Flying Saucers and Science”), David M. Jacobs, Ph.D., Temple University historian (“The Hybrid Presence”), and John Ventre, Pennsylvania state director for MUFON (“The 2008 Bucks County Sightings”).

Better Late Than Never, maybe?

Can’t blame Alexandro Rojas of the Mutual UFO Network for getting psyched about the close encounter with Mr. Sugar Daddy. After all, says MUFON’s director of public education, the 5,500 UFO reports compiled last year represent a doubling of activity in American skies from 2007.

Obviously, the ability to dispatch qualified, rapid-response investigators to a physical contact site without having to worry about money is a longstanding dream. MUFON counts 300 members who’ve completed standardized training and know how to collect and catalogue soil, foliage and other environmental samples.

“Our big issues have always been travel budgets and lab analysis,” says Rojas from his home in Denver. “Now, we’ll be able to mobilize investigators and gather the evidence immediately.”
