SETI was founded in response to a September 1959 Nature journal article, “Searching for Interstellar Communication”, which suggested that a systematic search for alien life was worthwhile.

Since then, it has spent 50 years listening to the stars with radio telescopes, and at times trying to send messages of its own to other planets.

Here are 10 of the most significant events in mankind’s search for other life.

Little Green Men: Pulsars
In 1967, astronomers in the UK spotted a radio signal from another star. Nothing too remarkable in that, as all stars emit radio waves.

What was unexpected, though, was that this one turned itself on and off with perfect regularity: one 0.04 second pulse every 1.3373 seconds.

The metronomic beat sparked speculation that it might be a signal from an alien life form, and the signal was given the name LGM-1, standing for Little Green Men.

In fact, the astronomers had discovered a new type of star – a pulsar. A form of neutron star (an incredibly dense dead star: one just 12 miles across would weigh more than our Sun), they rotate at a huge velocity, giving off powerful beams of radiation as they spin.

Martian bacteria?
In 1984, a rock was found in the Allan Hills, Antarctica. It is believed to have been formed on Mars around 4.5 billion years ago, before being blasted into space by meteorite impacts around 15 million years ago.

It then wandered through space for millions of years, before crashing into our planet about 11,000 years before the birth of Christ.

An interesting enough history, but the meteorite – known as ALH84001 – really made the headlines in 1996. Structures that resembled tiny fossilised bacteria were found, as were organic molecules, sparking theories of ancient life on Mars. The excitement grew so great that US President Bill Clinton made a televised announcement about the find.

Arguments over whether these really are evidence of Martian life, or whether the sample has become contaminated during its time on Earth, are still raging today.

Earth-like planets
‘Terrestrial’, or rocky, planets, are considered the most likely place for life to be found. There are four in our own solar system – Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.

But in the last few years, the first possible examples of Earth-like planets outside our system have been found. In 2007 European scientists said they had found two – the third and fourth planets around the red dwarf Gliese 581 – which might be habitable.

Water on Mars
This month the news broke that the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has spotted evidence of ice in five locations on Mars. It is the latest in a series of discoveries of water on the planet, indicating that the planet may have had a more humid climate at some stage in the last few thousand years.

Water is required for all known forms of life, so the existence of water on other planets increases the likelihood that life exists elsewhere.

Drake equation
The first serious attempt to quantify the likelihood of humanity coming into contact with alien life, the Drake equation reads: N=fp ne fl fi fc L.

It states that if we know the rate of star formation, the percentage of stars that have habitable planets, and the percentage of those planets that are likely at any given time to support life that signals its existence to the universe, we could estimate how many civilisations in our galaxy we might communicate with.

Unfortunately, none of those factors are known, so we are still guessing.

The Aricebo Message
Not part of the search for life per se, but rather helping anyone else who may be looking for us. In November 1974, a message was beamed from the Aricebo radio telescope towards the M13 star cluster, about 25,000 light years away. The message, created by Drake equation author Frank Drake and physicist Carl Sagan, included an image of a human and information about the makeup of DNA.

Sadly, M13 will have moved by the time it arrives.

A later broadcast - beaming the music of the Beatles at the Pole Star, 431 light years away - was, in all apparent seriousness, condemned as inviting an interstellar attack from warlike aliens.

Voyager
Three years later, in 1977, the two Voyager space probes were launched. As well as their scientific equipment, they contain gold discs containing information about Earth, including Mozart’s music and greetings in 54 human languages. It is currently around 10 billion miles from Earth; its radio signals take 15 hours to reach us, even at the speed of light.

In May 2005, NASA scientists said that Voyager 1 had reached the heliosheath, the boundary that marks the edge of the solar system. It is expected to pass through into interstellar space in 2015, becoming the first man-made object ever to leave the Sun’s orbit.

Kepler telescope
In March, the Kepler Mission was launched with the express goal of finding Earth-like planets around other stars.

It is designed to find small planets by watching stars closely to see if they suddenly get dimmer, indicating that something has passed in front of them. For an Earth-sized planet, that would mean the star becoming dimmer by just 0.01 per cent.

The Wow! signal and Radio source SHGb02+14a
In 1977, an astronomer with SETI spotted an unusual radio signal while working on a radio telescope at Ohio State University. He was so excited by it that he wrote “Wow!” in the margin of the printout.

However, it was never spotted again. After he had calmed down, the discoverer Dr Jerry R Ehman said he believed it was “an Earth-sourced signal that simply got reflected off a piece of space debris.”

Another candidate for evidence of alien life was SHGb02+14a, a signal spotted three times in March 2003. It was at a frequency expected to be used by extraterrestrials – the frequency at which hydrogen absorbs and emits photons.

However, again there were reasons to be sceptical, not least that it came from a direction in which there are no stars for 1000 light years. While impossible to rule out extraterrestrial origin, it may have been a distorted signal from a pulsar, or just random noise.

SETI@home
In the 21st century the search for extraterrestrial life continues in hundreds of thousands of bedrooms and offices around the world.

Launched in 1999, SETI@home is the name given to a virtual supercomputer made of huge numbers of internet-linked home computers. Anybody can download the software and allow SETI to use their spare processing power to scour data from radio telescopes for evidence of alien intelligence.

In terms of power it is the fourth most powerful computer on the planet. It was this network of home computers that spotted SHGb02+14a, and one NASA scientist has predicted that it will find an alien signal by 2025.

E.T. phone the U: Physics class tries to contact extraterrestrials

By Veronica Pineda, Daily Utah Chronicle/UWire

Published Sept. 29, 2009

UNIVERSITY OF UTAH -- One University of Utah class is hunting down the lovable E.T. with radios and books.

The class Does Extraterrestrial Intelligence Exist? uses a scientific method to theorize where E.T. could be and how to contact him.

“We are basically trying to notify E.T. that we exist, and the idea of current thinking is that E.T. might be doing something similar to this,” George Cassiday, the physics professor who teaches the class, said.

Students search for E.T. by analyzing radio telescope data, made available through downloadable software, which enables students to obtain radio signals on their home computers and find patterns in the signal that might be generated in an unnatural way.

Students will also be creating their own patterns to signal life on earth in binary code, and beam the code through radio signals into other galaxies with the hope that inhabitants of another planet will receive the pattern, decode the message and, in turn, respond with a message of their own.

The laws of physics and the fundamental building blocks of all existence are universal, Cassiday said, and it is assumed that E.T. would be familiar with the same math and science that humans use.

The class, which fulfills a general science credit, also tackles topics such as the composition of life and how humans came into existence, which are essential to understanding the possibility of extraterrestrial life and its evolution.

“We normally think of evolution through our species, but we don’t usually think about evolution of our planet, which is very interesting,” said Mari Broadhead, a senior in communication sciences and disorders who took the class in 2007.

The class does not require a prerequisite, but a strong background in physics and math is fundamental because the class is much more complex than the name suggests, Broadhead said.

“I push them, but I don’t destroy them,” Cassiday said. “Students get into it and they’re stunned—it’s not easy.”

The Butterfly Crop Circle in Netherlands

I have decided to post this in its entirety to capture all interpretations of Crop Circles. The source is here , make your own conclusions and feel free to share with us. C.

A Gigantic Butterfly Crop Circle formation (530 Meters x 450 Meters), the Biggest Crop Circle Ever ... appeared in Netherlands near a town in southern Holland called Goes, on the 8th of August 2009. It is an incredibly large butterfly with Da Vinci's 'Vitruvian Man' in the center, depicting the metamorphosis of the Caterpillar into a Butterfly. I stumbled upon this brilliant crop circle today while randomly checking one of my friends' profile on facebook ... my first reaction was that of sheer amazement and the feeling of a rising wave of excitement within realizing the magical synchronicity communicating with all tuned in ...

The Blog Header for Mayan Prophecy 2012 has an image of a man much like Da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man" ... and just a few days ago I added a quote about the Caterpillar to Butterfly Transformation at the end of the blog with a small symbol for a Butterfly :) ... A friend called 'Vikas' (which means to 'Grow' or 'Evolve') sent me this quote couple of months back ... soon after the magical dragonfly crop circle appeared in England, which was also quite synchronistic as we were discussing dragonflies a day before it was reported :)

The firefly you see hovering on the right was also recently added to this page ... ツ

This formation has not yet been reported by Crop Circle Connector and there seems to be a massive drive by the media to keep this low key by suggesting it was man made ... :) We would love to see pictures or videos taken of the artists while at work :)

The Butterfly is symbolic of the process of evolution and is used in many cultures and traditions to symbolize the 'Psyche' or the 'Soul' ...

Spiritual Evolution: The butterfly exists in four distinct forms. Some consider that so do we: The fertilized egg is planted in our mother's womb. From our day of birth we are like the caterpillar which can only eat and creep along. At death we are like the dormant pupa in its chrysalis. After that, our consciousness emerges from the cast off body, and some see in this the emergence of the butterfly. Therefore, the butterfly is symbolic of rebirth after death.

For Christians, the butterfly's three steps of metamorphosis -- as caterpillar, pupa and then winged insect -- are reminiscent of spiritual transformation. The caterpillar's incessant crawling and chewing reminds us of normal earthly life where people are often wholly preoccupied with physical needs. The chrysalis (cocoon) resembles a tomb and empty, can suggest the empty shroud left behind by Jesus. Therefore, a butterfly represents the resurrection into a new condition of life that is free of any material concerns. In images of the Garden of Eden, Adam's soul is symbolized by a butterfly, or drawn with butterfly wings.

In paintings of Mary and her Child, the presence of butterflies stands for their care for human souls. The Gnostics depicted the Angel of Death by showing a winged foot stepping on a butterfly. Since the insect is so fragile it can be torn apart by a hard rain, the butterfly stands for human frailty, both moral and physical. Also, as its life is not a long one, it is also a symbol of the ephemeral nature of physical existence. A butterfly with a torn wing is the icon for a North American charity that benefits disabled children.

Transfiguration : In America among the Aztec and Maya, the god of cosmic fire, Xiutecutli, is symbolized by a butterfly. Fire is considered the element of transformation, as in cookery and the smelting of metals. This association is borne out in traditional psychoanalysis where a dream or drawing of a butterfly is taken as a symbol of the client's imminent transformation. En este caso no habido ni sueño ni pintura, pero si la sincronicidad jungiana de la aparición de una mariposa en tu ventana en pleno sand storm … (Roughly translated ... In this case not sleep or painting, but the jungian synchronicity of the emergence of a butterfly in your window in full sand storm)

The ancient Greeks depicted the spirit of a person as a winged stick figure. Interpretation of that symbol gave rise to the idea of the "Soul" or "Psyche" as a butterfly.

The Butterfly Effect suggests the idea that one butterfly could eventually have a far-reaching ripple effect on subsequent historic events and was first mentioned by Ray Bradbury in 1952 in a short story on Time Travel !

As Gregg Braden also suggests in one of his videos on the Holographic nature of the Universe ... One change anywhere in the hologram is mirrored throughout the Hologram ...

... We are the one's we've been waiting for ...

In Lak'ech ... May The Great Spirit Always Be With You ... ツ

This undated handout image provided by NASA, released Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, taken by the refurbished Hubble Space Telescope, shows a celestial object that looks like a delicate butterfly ... ツ ! NGC 6302: The Butterfly Nebula ...

The bright clusters and nebulae of planet Earth's night sky are often named for flowers or insects, and NGC 6302 is no exception. With an estimated surface temperature of about 250,000 degrees C, the central star of this particular planetary nebula is exceptionally hot though -- shining brightly in ultraviolet light but hidden from direct view by a dense torus of dust. This dramatically detailed close-up of the dying star's nebula was recorded by the newly upgraded Hubble Space Telescope. Cutting across a bright cavity of ionized gas, the dust torus surrounding the central star is near the center of this view, almost edge-on to the line-of-sight. Molecular hydrogen has been detected in the hot star's dusty cosmic shroud. NGC 6302 lies about 4,000 light-years away in the arachnologically correct constellation Scorpius.

Aliens in the NASA Archives - More Stunning NASA UFO Anomalies Captured On Film

By LunaCognita

After receiving such a positive response to my first "NASA Alien Anomalies" compilation video, I decided I would do a follow-up effort, presenting a few more of my favorite anomalous audio soundbites, videos, and still images that I have archived during my years of research and investigation into this most monumental of all cover-ups.
Hopefully, you will see some new evidence here in this video that you were not aware of, as I made sure to include a few less-publicized (though in my opinion still highly compelling) images in this presentation.

I also include audio portions of another radio interview with Doctor Edgar Mitchell , Lunar Module Pilot for the Apollo 14 mission and the sixth man to walk on the Moon. This particular interview is from July of 2008, and as you will hear, Mitchell is VERY candid about the existence of intelligent extra-terrestrial life and of the long-term and on-going effort to conceal this information from the public. In addition to his fame as an Apollo astronaut, here is a brief look at some of Doctor Mitchell's other very impressive credentials. He is not exactly some "crazy hick farmer talking about swamp gas", now is he?

Edgar Mitchell - BIOGRAPHY

US Naval Aviator (carrier/research/test-qualified)
Instructor at the Navy's research pilot school.
Astronaut selection - 1966
Backup LMP for Apollo 10
LMP for Apollo 14 - lunar landing (Fra Mauro highlands)

Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University,
Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School,
Doctor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT,

Honorary Doctorates in engineering from
New Mexico State University,
the University of Akron,
Carnegie Mellon University,
and a Doctor of Science from Embry-Riddle University.

Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom,
the United States Navy Distinguished Medal,
three NASA Group Achievement Awards.

Inducted into the Space Hall of Fame in 1979
and the Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1998.
Nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.
Member of Kappa Sigma fraternity
Advisory Board Chairman of the Institute for Cooperation in Space,

Co-founder of The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) to encourage and conduct research on "human potentials".

Also, I may as well draw attention to the fact that more than once in this interview, Dr. Mitchell mentions a "60-year" timeframe for this coverup (The "Roswell Incident" was in 1947 remember), and he confirms that the reverse-engineering of advanced alien technology has been going on since then. This is VERY important for many reasons, and knowing this, you must also realize and accept that what you think may be "State Of The Art" technology in the public realm is in fact DECADES behind the true "Beyond State Of The Art" technology the military industrial complex have covertly developed and have been playing with (paid for by all of you of course!).

Also, be sure to check out Jose Escamilla's new motion picture documentary "MOON RISING", where we go into much further depth about what is, without exaggeration, the most monumental coverup in human history. You have NO idea what you have been missing!

UNIDENTIFIED flying objects have returned to a famous Territory hot spot.

Workers and tourists at the Wycliffe Well Holiday Park reported seeing strange lights hovering in the night

Park employee Julie Zanker, 36, said she walked outside on Thursday night and was amazed at what she saw, the Northern Territory News reports.

”We were looking at the sky and there was a white light with red and blue flashing lights around it,” she said.

”It was just sitting there, hovering. It definitely wasn't a plane or a helicopter.”

She said about eight people – staff and tourists – witnessed the strange lights hovering in the night sky.

Ms Zanker said that the scene became even more remarkable shortly later in the evening.

”I went out for a cigarette and there were about 10 of them up there,” she said.

”They were all white with red and blue flashing lights.”

Wycliffe Well, about 380km north of Alice Springs, is a renowned UFO hot spot.

Holiday Park owner Lew Farkas claims to have seen more than 30 UFOs in his time.

The lie of the Mexican alien baby

I received this link from Martin asRoney, responsible for the website www.histocracia.com.ar, who revealed a possible (and probable) explanation for the "Alien baby from Mexico". Here's the best translation I could get. If you have a better translation please feel free to share it and I will re-post it. Thank you Martin for the link.

http://histocracia.com.ar/la-mentira-del-bebe-extraterrestre-mexicano/

September 10, 2009 | Author: Roney

True or false?. Fact or fiction? It all depends on the eyes with that look of things. Apparently the alien baby might be all a lie and they would not be more than a squirrel monkey.

At least this is what the website says ALICIONE who refers to all the deceptions of Jaime Maussan.

According to the web Stio alien baby would be a lie and would be nothing more than a baby squirrel.

This is done taking into comparative similarity of the skull of the supposed extraterrestrial and the primate infant.

The site in question states that after doing a comparison on the Internet. In other words: "They searched the internet images of some bug like the one found in Mexico and said this is". No doubt something very convincing either.

Given that the website that published it seems dedicated to deny anything you say Maussán not seem to be a reliable source ...

Moreover Infobae published this news as some giving all the credit "Captain Alejandro Franz who was in charge of this" research "and who is also responsible for the website ALICIONE and recognized as a leading ufologists.

Other web sites refer to this notice and question the extraterrestrial origin of the creature found in Mexico in 2007 and refer to that "experts" say it is a monkey.

Now I wonder. When referring to"experts" to whom they refer?
In my opinon this is more like a fight to see who sells sector the best story and for trying to "smear" everything the other says.

Points to consider

  1. I never saw a monkey baby skinned.
  2. Those who claim that the baby is not alien do supociciones or based on comparative
  3. After watching the video below: How a farmer can confuse a rat with another animal? That does not make sense, anyone can tell one thing from another rat eye. Plus if it has caught the tail.
  4. He had been caught in a trap?

In this case everything is under personal opinion and everyone will believe what they want.

Crop circles: What's Google trying to tell us?

Posted by Garett Rogers @ 7:17 pm
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Google/?p=1546

This is the second Google doodle in the last ten days that has featured space ships — this latest one shows a UFO making crop circles.

Along with the doodle came a clue on twitter — coordinates (51.327629, -0.5616088) that seem to point to a town called Horsell in England. This happens to be the location where aliens landed in “The War of the Worlds”.

Google says that it will uncover the mystery this week — September 21’s would have been Welles’ 143 birthday, so it may be about that.

But do you think it’s that easy? I’m hoping it’s a sign that Google is about to release something — and this is their way of generating some buzz around it.

Let’s take bets — post what you think:

1) The Google logo’s are leading up to the would-be birthday of H.G. Welles.
2) Generating buzz around a product launch coming up this week
3) Something else — tell us what you think

Paranormal experts feel alienated by Obama

UFOIA

By: Dave Maass 09/16/2009
Santa Fe Reporter

Change may be harder to believe in than extraterrestrial life—at least when it comes to releasing classified records, according to UFOlogists in attendance at Angel Fire’s first Paranormal Symposium.

“The only ‘change’ is the change of opinion among UFOlogists who think that we’re going to get something from Obama,” Dee Gragg, who teaches adult education courses on UFOs at New Mexico State University, says.

Gragg presented a lecture on crop circles at the symposium, held Sept. 11-13 in the small village 25 miles outside Taos. The event drew more than 150 attendees to listen to 10 lectures covering everything from monster hunting to “UFOs and Alternative Energy.” While the speakers disagree on theories and explanations, they largely agree that Obama hasn’t made paranormal research and UFO disclosure as high a priority as they had hoped.

“If you lined up the 17 most important things Obama has to do, [UFOs] wouldn’t make the list,” Gragg says. “Look what he’s got on his plate; he’s not about to take on something like this.”

Right now, that plate is heaped over with health insurance reform. But just as the US lags behind the rest of the Western world on universal coverage, paranormal truth-seekers say the US also trails Europe when it comes to the release of UFO records.

In late August, the British National Archives followed the lead of several other nations, including France and Russia, by releasing 4,000 pages of documents related to UFO reports dating back 15 years. Nick Redfern, a British-born author of more than a dozen books on the paranormal, has reviewed many of the British documents and notes that approximately 90 percent are reports of sightings from citizens and requests for information filed by researchers.

The remaining 10 percent, he says, are the most interesting: reports of UFO sightings by military pilots that correspond with unidentifiable blips recorded by radar stations on the ground.

“The [release of] documents is good because it shows that government agencies investigated it,” Redfern tells SFR. “It shows there are credible witnesses. What it doesn’t do is answer the question of what these things are.”

Yet, the US government still keeps its mother lode of secrets on lockdown.

On a recent visit to the Harry S Truman Library and Museum in Independence, Mo., Gragg says he discovered that a third of the UFO files contained only a pink slip of paper stating the information for that file has yet to be declassified. The security presence at the library, according to Gragg, also indicates the government knows something, but won’t share it.

“Would you believe that there were four or five guards with walkie-talkie radios talking to each other and they were all packing heat?” Gragg says. “I’m saying, what are they going to do, shoot me if I chew gum too loud?”

Dennis Balthaser, who researches the Roswell UFO crash, says he had one Freedom of Information Act request—or FOIA—pending with the US government for more than eight years.

“When I send in a FOIA, many times I get a [letter] back with a generic stamp on it that says those records may have been destroyed in a fire in 1973,” Balthaser says. “That’s well and good, but ‘may have been’ is not an answer.”

Although during the campaign Obama indicated he would push for further transparency, his administration has played coy on UFO issues. For example, UFOlogists point to a July C-Span appearance by Obama’s press secretary, Robert Gibbs, in which he dodged a viewer-submitted question about UFOs.

“Look, I have not been briefed on whether or not there are the existence of UFOs,” Gibbs told Ryan from Seattle. “I know that the president is deeply concerned about ensuring we have transparency in government, and the American people have faith in what the government is trying to do.”

Similarly, On Sept. 9, Obama personally told Philadelphia radio host Michael Smerconish that he had indeed seen the presidential “Book of Secrets,” which was the catalyst for adventure in Disney’s second National Treasure film. As far as the information inside, he said to Smerconish, “I would tell you, but I’d have to kill you.”

Guy Malone, who lectured on Christianity and UFOs at the symposium, doubts Obama is in the loop. Like many UFOlogists, he believes such information is classified above even the president’s clearance level.

“I think the Clintons knew a lot more because they were tight with [former Clinton Chief of Staff] John Podesta who was trying to get this UFO stuff disclosed,” Malone says.

Redfern has noted a stricter policy related to public information and UFO records in the last decade, but believes it is more due to the fallout after 9.11 than any particular presidential administration.

“Whether it was the Clinton era, Bush Sr., Reagan, [release policies] weren’t that much different,” Redfern says. “I don’t believe there’s been a clampdown on access to UFO data. I think there’s just been a clampdown on everything.”

Redfern, however, says when the government rejects a UFO-related request, more often than not it isn’t to cover up extraterrestrial contact, but to protect terrestrial defense. For example, governments often don’t want foreign powers understanding their radar and satellite capabilities.

“National security doesn’t always relate necessarily to the sighting,” Redfern says. “Sometimes it’s the way they collect the information.”

But some UFOlogists believe that full release of UFO documentation would not be in the public’s best interest.

“What would be the effect on our population if suddenly we told them UFOs not only are real, but we cannot protect you against them, that they can disintegrate anything that we have?” Gragg says. “Secondly, what would be their reaction when they find out that aliens, particularly the ‘little grays,’ abduct people all the time?”

Gragg says the administration should come up with a plan to prepare the population and gradually release information.

There are also political considerations.

“If you look at what happened to Dennis Kucinich, when it came out during the presidential debates that Shirley MacLaine put in her book that he saw a UFO at her house, he tanked,” Malone says. “You get thrown in the gutter very quickly if you discuss UFOs in a political sense.”

Malone is confident that, if released, the facts would support his theory that aliens are actually fallen angels who are trying to lure Christians into joining cults like Heaven’s Gate, whose members committed mass suicide in 1997 in the hopes of catching a lift on comet Hale-Bopp.

However, he also believes information will emerge that proves the Roswell crash was a government experiment involving Nazis, technology developed by Nikola Tesla, mongoloid children and radiation-poisoning survivors.

“I think all the records should be disclosed so that people have access to all the information they need to make an informed, intelligence decision,” Malone says.
